    I thought of just using another two 12v batteries, either connected up in parallel to the existing ones, or else with a switch to allow you to change over to the other batteries when the usual ones die.

    Or an alternative could be to replace the existing SLA batteries with lithium ones.

      Prices will go down. The consumer base of mobility goods is growing fast.
      Take them out of "medical" and "DME" and into garages and bicycle shops,, It is already happening.
