Portable hand controls Z4, PHC III, AZ-1, TNT, Peddle Master

    Hi,

I'm a T4, in the market for some portable hand controls.

These are the five I've run into so far.
    Z4 ($289),
    PHC III (379),
    AZ-1 ($259),
    Peddle Master ($279.95),
    TNT ($285.22). www.tntportable.com/

I've tried the Peddle Master, I like the way they grip
to the peddles but they are so cheaply made they
will break in no time... as they went on to do.
I didn't like the way that the two sticks weren't
mechanically joined so you had to juggle them in
one hand, seemed kind of dangerous to me.

I've seen the Z4's, they seem harder to fix
to the peddles, but I like the way they are joined
so they are much easier to use with one hand.

Has anyone used the Z4 or TNT or AZ-1 and PHC III and
compared the different mechanical actions, what
    were the pro's and con's ?

Do you know of other portable hand controls ?

Opinions on any of the portable hand controls?

    Thanks for any information.

I have the PHC for about 5 years and no problems, got it down to a couple minutes or so install on most cars. Great for rental cars.

I have only used the Z4's so I can't offer a pro's and con's comparison. I can say that they are easy to install and comfortable to use.

              I have the AZ-1s.

I use them for my "permanent" hand controls (read: dont have the money for "real" hand controls)

If you are using them everyday, they might not be the best. You pretty much have to mash the accelerator with your thumb, so the first couple weeks, your thumb gets really sore if you are driving much.

If you are using them long term, they are very well built, and solid. They attach firmly and quickly to the pedals. The only beef I have with them is that the motorcycle style handle grip should not be glued on... that way you could put on a gel grip (or whatever you want) from the motorcycle shop.

Go on e-bay and get the Mark-1000, they go for about @50 bucks, used, and are a breeze to adapt and put on.

Can you use the z4 to drive with your right hand instead of left?

Ive been using the z4s for a couple weeks now. i like them. In this thread theres a video you can see that we put a bracket on the underside of the dash to hold them in place better and so i can do it with my right hand.

I have the Z4s and I did not have a problem with them until I went to try and test drive our new truck. The gas pedal was more recessed than the brake so they would not work. The gas "pole" was not long enough to actually engage the gas. I guess it depends on what you will be driving...but keep that in mind.

I have used all four types. Z4s have worked best for me and thats all I use now. Fit most, but not all cars. AZ-1 is an attempted copy of Z4 and is harder to use in my opinion. PHC are ok but potentially more dangerous than the others because of how they mount. Peddle masters are junk and won't last.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for the input. I will go with the z4.

Are the z4 left or right handed.....seems like the right hand ones would be a pain to hold brake and reach over for the shift handle to go from forward to reverse?

I have MPD hand controls out of Canada and love them. Very strong level on my left side and works great. I have used them for over five years and never needed adjustment.
