    Lars Olsson, professor from the Karolinska institute in Stockholm

    Lars Olsson, professor from the Karolinska institute in Stockholm receives the Uppsala University’s biggest award, the Bjorkenska prize for the year 2005. This was decided by the University today.

    Lars Olsson receives the award for his effort for publications and his work the last decade for finding possibilities for treatment of spinal cord injuries with stem cell transplantations. The award (prize) will be given to him 27th January.

    Lars Olsson, professor vid Karolinska institutet i Stockholm, får Uppsala universitets största vetenskapliga pris, Björkénska priset för år 2005. Det beslutade konsistoriet under tisdagen.

    Lars Olsson får priset för sina insatser för och publicerade arbeten under det senaste decenniet om möjligheterna att behandla ryggmärgsskador med celltransplantationer.
    Priset delas ut vid vinterpromotionen 27 januari.

    Fotnot: Björkénska priset har fått sitt namn efter läkaren John Björkén, som efter en framgångsrik karriär donerade all sin kvarlåtenskap till universitetet. Pengarna skulle användas "utan afseende på yrke eller samhällsställning såsom en belöning på framstående forskning eller sådan på vetenskaplig grund hvilande arbeten".

    Footnote: The Bjorkenska award (prize) got its name after the doctor John Bjorken which after a long and prosperous career donated everything he had to the university.

    In my opinion, this award is very well-deserved. Lars Olson has been fighting for decades to develop therapies to regenerate the spinal cord. Congratulations to him. http://www.karolinskafund.com/v2/eng...lars_olson.asp Wise.
