A lot of groups are doing a lot with BCI research, some of whom are specifically focused on SCI. Many groups are focused on motor function or therapeutic uses for BCI. It would be impressive if someone were able to wire some kind of "bridge" back up the body that uses its own sensory receptors and gets the signal to the brain, but I imagine that would be much more difficult than using the brain's output to produce movement.
