  • Anyone Ever Heard of IMT?

I just met a para while in therapy at Research Institute of St Louis who was injured about six months ago. He is considering going to Atlanta, Ga. for treatment at a place called IMT. They reportedly do deep tissue massage and electrical stimulation. They claim improvements are being made in SCI sensations and movements. With so many places offering treatments I wanted to ask this group if anyone had heard of this place and/or been treated by them. Any and all information is appreciated. I will see him again Tuesday morning.

Yes my son has been going there for 4 months and he is progressing nicely. Do a search for IMT on this site. I have commented on it several times.

CenterIMt has a web site at www.centerimt.com They have treatment centers all over the US. Their SCI specialist in located in Fayetteville, Ga., about 25 miles SE of Atlanta. Jake (complete C4-5, 2.5 years post wrestling-SCI) goes 4 hours/week. After 4 months he can right himself (situp in bed with no laterial or back support). He is also learning to turn himself in bed. Next up will be to stand with aid of a specialized walker and CAFOs. The walker has wheels and a harness to hold him up. The therapy is high ($140/hr), but is covered by many major insurance companies (BS+BC,AIG,etc.). They make writen uppdates as well as pictures and videos every 3 months, so that your Dr. and insurance company know that the therapy is worth your time and their money! A complete c-6 SCI 21 year-old-female (auto wreck)is walking with the walker and Cafos after 2.5 years of IMT. She has also developed some use of her fingers and hands, and can transfer herself in and out of her manual wheel chair. Her and Jake's health are also improved with less UT and RT infections. She will be working on boul and blader recovery soon. She and Jake have a 4 year plan for a greatly improved life style. I will keep you informed of their progress.
