    $300,000 Towards the Cure

    Many of you are aware of my affiliation with Craig Hospital, Englewood, CO.

    Today I am pleased to announce that the Push For The Cure fundraising dinner taking place March 26, 2002 will be contributing at least $300,000 towards SCI research.

    This is a first year event that will be annualized from 2002 forward. Sponsors attending this event will donate a minimum of $250 up to $25,000.00.

    Hopefully this is a precursor of more good things to come.

        Additional news

        As of 11/27 we have raised $200,000 towards the goal of $300,000. Our deadline is next March. All monies will be invested in cure research. (BTW, Melissa Holley will be taking part in the dinner as will CR via taped message.)

        Also, good news for both acutes and subacutes. The Tel Aviv macrophage therapy will be available at Craig hospital sometime in late spring. No need to travel to Israel. Colorado instead which will be the only U.S. fda approved site thus far.

        In relation to acute / subacute Proneuron is now extending their minimum/maximum injury timeline from 10 days to 21 days. Who knows, maybe within a year it may extend to chronics?

        I see good things from this.

        A)More money towards cure research.
        B)Media exposure / education.
        C)Willingness by U.S. (Craig) researchers / doctors / administration to step up and try to make a difference.
        D)Significant step towards a cure.

          What is the time differentiation between "subacute" and "chronic"?

            My understanding is; acute = 0-14 days.
            subacute = 14-30. These time frames can change as the study/procedure is extended.

              As of

              last week we've raised $400,000.00!

              All of it to be used for research towards a cure.

              Hopefully our success with this initial effort will repeat itself over and over until it is no longer necessary.

                How is the money supposed to be distributed? Grant proposals?

                Maybe someone in your area could give some hints to some researchers on what to study. [like Rollipram [img]/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif[/img]]

                        how do you get ppl to pay 250 for a dinner. are these hollywood stars? someone explain how this is done. maybe i can throw a long horn on the grill and raise 300,000 at a bbq.

                          DA, if you can dream it you can do it. Not hollywood stars but dedicated and informed community members.

                            DA, Many people begin with barbeques as a fund raiser. You can do it all yourself or hire someone (or they donate their labor and someone else a pig or 2) to roast a couple of porkers. Have local delis donate sides and friends desserts. Then charge $25 or $35 a person. Get a band that needs some local publicity to play too. Make sure you tie up with a charity first so people can write off the portion of the cost that isn't directly for the food and entertainment and that you can give the final check to. I'm sure there's a charity in Texas that will give you a hand..
