    Wise are you familiar with the phase 1 study of the Veterans Hospital for Veterans? Could you give your understanding of the therapy and will the veterans of the wars have a chance to walk again?

          TCA Cellular Therapeutics

          Many people have been asking me about this therapy and trial. I do not know any more than what is available on internet.

          It appears that they are growing mesenchymal stem cells from a person's own bone marrow and then transplanting these into the spinal cord. From the description and the fact that the patient was out of the hospital the next day, it seems that they are injecting the cells intrathecally. As I explained elsewhere, I am skeptical that intrathecal injection of the cells will do very much to get the cells into the spinal cord. The cells are most likely to settle in the cauda equina. It is possible that they may provide some growth factors that may stimulate some growth. It will be interesting to see what happens.

          A search of http://clinicaltrials.gov indicated that this company is carrying out several FDA-approved clinical trials:

            Sad this is intrathecally.
            If they also provide some growth factors, how will they be able to determine if the outcome is due to the cells or due to the factors?
            Don't ask what clinical trials can do for you, ask what you can do for clinical trials.
