Radio Shack uses e-mail to cut workers

FORT WORTH (AP) - RadioShack Corp. followed through on its announced plans to cut about 400 jobs, but the electronics retailer has been forced on the defensive about its method of notifying laid-off employees by e-mail.

That is one reason I make sure I am up on everything in the office. When a company needs to down size then they will rely on you to fill in. The best job is to be a CEO. Look at Delta.....they give the CEO's fat salaries then they down size.

I didn't read THIS link on the story, but I did read a lil back story on this yesterday after our news did a sensational blurb about it....The e-mails were expected, this was NOT cold or unexpected..They'd held meetings about the cut-backs and been notified well in advance that they'd be notified via E-Mail of their layoffs and exactly when they would be implemented. These people were notified IN ADVANCE, IN PERSON, VIA Corporate meetings that there would be cutbacks and to be expecting the e-mails....

          Ideal situation? NO
          Anticipated? YES

I think Radio Shack is really getting slain unnecesarily, they're NOT the first company to do this and they won't be the last...They just happen to be the media's victim of the moment...

I think notifying employees of being layoff by email is the height of insensitivity. I was in the business arena for over forty years and we would never even thought of being so calous.

I think the real victims here were in fact the thousands of "Radio Shack/The Source/Tandy" employees.

Wasn't it really the terrible senior mangement that led to this?

So the lesson is ... if you are part of a poor Board of Directors and senior mangement have your legal counsel write an email and have corporate HR send it out.

Now you have 30 minutes to read this warm news and leave the building!
