1080 vs 4k

My sister and I were thinking of getting my mom and stepdad a new TV. They currently have a Sceptre 32" 1080 hd. I got to thinking though that since their movie collection is DVD and our internet sometimes buffers when watching regular HD from Amazon Prime. If the TV is going to be between 43-49" is 4k really going to be that much more clearer. They are in their early to mid 70's so their ability to see super high quality might be hampered by that as well. For about the same price we could get either a 43" 4k or a 49" 1080.

I was planning to get myself a 4k TV after Christmas but the majority of my personal movies are dvd and look good to decent on my Vizio 32" 1080. The biggest that I can go in my room is 40" so I'm not sure that its even going to make that much difference to me as well and I have great vision and am kind of an hd snob. (I don't like watching non-hd quality TV channels if I can help it.) I'm still doing bed rest so I can't go into a store and get a firsthand visual for myself.

I bought the D model Vizio ...299 for 50"....use it in my art studio for monitor...I got a 32" D model in my kitchen for 159.00. I bought it at sam's club....I think they have a 43" same model for 179 or 199 now...crazy prices anymore..but they have a great picture...Wallyworld has free shipping, I had them ship that 50"..it was same price everywhere...I've had it for a year, it's cheaper now..

There is not a lot of 4k content out there inless your with Dish and pay for it. But the one thing "Kids" dont concider when buying a TV for parents is bigger and brighter really helps!

So a 4k TV will bring a lot better picture to the home and the bigger the picture the more easy it will be to see.

Most people dont watch DVDs any more with streaming being so cheap..

If you have buffering make sure you have a current and updated modem.

Many people have old out dated modem that dont support the bigger bandwidth demands of streaming..

Not personally but the reviews are pretty good for them. I was going to get one but it wouldn't fit my current wall mount and I didn't want to change that. It has a one year warranty and you can purchase a 2 year protection plan for $10. If 4k isn't a key factor then its something to consider. Less than half of the Samsung price...

They have it at Best Buy too. If you didn't like it its easier to return it to a store.

I've had 2 Vizio's. Horrible sound, had to get a sound bar. One of them "popped" then sound was gone completely. These are the negatives I found when I was looking for replacements, so I wasn't the only one with both of these issues (bad sound, pop, no sound).

I now have a Hisense and Sony. Good sound from both and very adjustable. Fast moving things like sports people and cars blur just a little on the Sony.
I've read on some of the 4K's that they reduce that blur with some sort of tech (not sure it's a 4K feature, just different tech filter).

I too need a smart-er TV (for Google) so I'll be watching this thread.

I just got a 32" Vizio for my bedroom. It says it works with Alexa and Google. They also have an app for your phone, but I have not used it.
I use Alexa to control mine. I have had 3 or 4 Vizio's over the years, I think like so many other things, the are built as cheap as they can now days..
But for $138.00 I am happy with it.

Or you can use any TV with a Google Chromcast plugged in?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably end up with the Samsung, my mom's paying half for my xmas gift and she raised me to believe you get what you pay for. Plus I keep things for years, you should see my current tv it's a dinosaur.

A few years ago we paid up for quality! Sony, no baloney.
Two year guarantee and we bought it like we always have, from a local small independent business. Twenty five months and it died. Without diagnosis he opined it as needing some $1200 major board replacement. I was upset! Can't you as a dealer get me some consideration? I am a long time customer and buy all my appliances here.
NOPE, nothing, NADA, should have taken the extended warranty.

That was the end of a beautiful relationship!

Without diagnosis he opined it as needing some $1200 major board replacement. I was upset! Can't you as a dealer get me some consideration? I am a long time customer and buy all my appliances here.

My current Vizio was bought at Sam's and I bought the extended warranty. A month before the first year warranty, a power surge took it out. I called Sam's and told them that it died. They didn't want the hassle of me bringing it back and returned my money. I was looking at the TV thinking about tossing it out and then I remembered the factory warranty. I was like, can it be repaired? I called Vizio and they sent out a tech who replaced the board (for free) and voila, my TV worked again. I felt like a criminal but I laughed at the situation (after the tech left) incredulously. I got a free TV and seriously felt guilty but what was I to do? I don't suggest you scam, but if the extended warranty isn't too much, buy it.
