    windows 7 ending

    as long asi keep a good antivirus do i need to update to windows 10 or even buy a new comp
    windows says it will no longer support windows 7 after jan1 2020 it wont send updates any longer
    all i really do is surf the net i do buy on amazon and ebay but i dont do online banking or run a business off it i just dont like any kind of change

    I wonder about it too. Google and Windows Defender (a supplemental malware program) will also stop updating. Malwarebytes seems to still work well on my old XP unit.
    I use a Win 7 for banking, will swap it for a Win10 unit I've had for years (didn't like it so it's rarely used). My Win7 laptop will get the test in January. I'll check out a lot of PDF down loads and maybe porn (biggest danger of malware) to see if Malwarebytes protect it. If it gets whacked then I'll know for sure.

        the kid at bestbuy said id be more at risk to get hacked if i dont get windows 10 i wonder is he just tryin make a sale

          Although Microsoft has officially ended the free upgrades to Windows 10, you can technically still install the operating system for free. If you're still running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you just need to download the Windows 10 installer. ... This is accomplished with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.

            im assuming id still use my webroot antivirus with the windows 10 or does it come with antivirus already

                So downloaded 10 yesterday following the link. Afterwards I got notification that it removed Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller driver as it wasnt compatible with windows 10. Is that ok is it something important?

                  Really you need to by a new puter with 10 on it. Windows 7 hardware is just to old to run 10 without problems. From what I was told from people that installed it. You can try it and see what happens. You really got nothing to lose. You really need to do a clean install which you will probably have to buy a license. It might run for awhile then say your license is no longer good. I have a 2015 laptop with 10 on it that ran so slow I bought a 500gb ssd drive did a clean install and it is 3 times faster than it was.

                      As previously stated, Windows 10 already comes with one called Defender. Therefore you won't really need anything else. However, the best defense is good behavior. No antivirus is 100% effective..at best they are 50% accurate. Also, they don't guard against so-called Zero-Day attacks. So avoid clicking on links or opening attachments, and keep the OS updated!

                          I'll take a look at webroot thxs.

                          Looking at Defender I can't find the log file listed. With all the warnings about how evil the internet is you would think there would be a nice rolling display of constant attacks lol. Something else to study up on. I agree sensible behavior goes a long way.

                            Check for a update to it from who made your puter. If no the motherboard just might be outdated. Run windows update they may have a fix for it also.

                              Well it seems to be running fine.


                              One other thing, I thought I could watch DVDs using Windows Media but no. What can I download safely to be able to watch them on my computer?
