What are Quads using for controlling their PC? Looking for better solutions..

Hello,
I'd like to get some feedback on what everyone is using for controlling their PC. I have a older modified solution right now but it works ideal.
It is the Headmaster on one side and a Plantronics headset on the other side. We cut the Plantronics headset and then tape it to the headmaster unit.
The result is a very efficient solution. I can quickly click anywhere on the screen with the Headmaster sip and puff unit. Then if I need to type I use NaturallySpeaking with the Plantronics headset.
But the Headmaster unit is no longer available and there should really be a better solution than combining the two as I have done.

Here's the ideal solution in my eyes.

A lightweight headset that has both a sip and puff switch and a microphone for use with NaturallySpeaking. It would be a wireless headset, you would have a box mounted on your monitor and you'd wear the headset to control everything.

I don't know if it is feasible but will be looking into it with my dad who is a retired engineer.

I've tried other products but I would like to make a solution that combines mouse and voice in one.

Imagine transcribing a bunch of data into Excel with either solution mentioned above. It's truly a nightmare scenario. I can give some examples but you probably get the point.

Anyhow I welcome any feedback on what I've discussed. Perhaps there is a solution out there already but I have yet to find it after some research.

I use a headmouse for moving mouse combined with a Scatir blink sensor to generate a mouse click as well as dwell click software. Dragon and a buddy 7 mic on a gooseneck for voice control and dictating. Haven't found a good bluetooth ear piece/mic that works with Dragon and is comfortable when you wear glasses so desktop mic is my preferred option.

I've also got a Now Technologies gyro headset which is useful, very easy to control mouse but unfortunately has a button on the rear which makes resting your head on the headrest awkward. https://nowtech.hu/gyroset-glory/ Now that there is an interface to allow wheelchair control I might start using it more.

Okay thanks for the feedback. I think your solution works. But it's a lot of clicking and I'm just not real productive. Such as a working environment.

I'm vented so voice control isn't a good option. You probably don't think about how you talk but a vent is just a dumb machine, it can't work out that you want to keep talking so pushes an inhale just when you don't want it. I recently took part in a research project on vents and speech as it is a common problem.

I'm self employed working in the bike industry, the set up I have works well other than drawing packages which inevitably involve shift/drag hence the Scatir but using it means temporarily disabling dwell click software.

From past experience it isn't surprising that you haven't got a lot of response. We are a minority in a minority and each has our own solution as no two are the same.

Okay thanks for the feedback and that makes sense for you with the vent. I know were the minority here. Just expected more people to be interested.. As I've seen all the available solutions out there and what proposing would be best for productivity.


Imagine doing a spreadsheet like this where you have to copy and paste each value. 40 rows and 6 columns. Try doing two spreadsheets like that and it will wear you out with NaturallySpeaking

I use SmartNav for my mouse movements https://www.naturalpoint.com/smartnav/ Dwell Clicker 2 for my mouse clicking and an onscreen keyboard for typing. Simple setup and it works great for me.

I use a QuadJoy v2 as a mouse replacement, NaturallySpeaking for dictation (I'm using it to write this response), the Windows On-Screen Keyboard or Touch Keyboard (they are two different things, both built into Windows 10), and VoiceAttack for short voice commands, mostly when playing games.

I also just got a QuadStick FPS which I'm experimenting with, although I'm having a hard time mounting it next to the QuadJoy without it interfering with other equipment.

Don't be disappointed in the replies, This is a unique situation and many are interested that is why they looked. Myself and I use windows speech recognition and a Trackball. I am not familiar with any of these systems being talked about here. I can type but recognition is much easier most of the time. It's too bad we cannot receive emails when someone replies that would make this web site so much better! Good luck with your search!

I use a head mouse called Tracker Pro https://www.ablenetinc.com/trackerpro

For clicking, I use a discontinued product called Wisp 2000 by a Canadian company. You can buy them on eBay from time to time. I just bought a backup unit a couple of weeks ago. They are a wireless clicking solution for both left and right clicks and works perfectly with my Tracker Pro. I use Apple's on screen keyboard with word prediction for most of my typing.

Excel is never easy, I do spreadsheets with over 400 rows with 7 different currencies, about 10 different duty and shipping rates and formula to calculate landed cost in our currency. Forex rate adjustable globally for use in scenario manager. One of the most useful tools is dragging from bottom right hand crosshair down to copy the formula. I have to switch off dwell and use my blink sensor to keep crosshair held down. I don't know if that is possible in dragon but it isn't easy with a head mouse.

It just demonstrates that we all find our own unique way depending upon what we need and what ability we have.

I use the SmartNav with a rigged left / right toggle switch for clicking when sitting up and a homemade sip-and-puff switch for when I'm laying flat.

By the way, if you use one of the head mouse devices, you can use 3M reflective tape if you run out of the dots they provide.

Thanks for posting this. Why such an emphasis on other products outside of Dragon? I use Dragon for everything (including mouse movements). Here's my setup: http://www.flatonmyback.com/resources

Does anybody use a QuadStick to enhance their mouse and keyboard capabilities on a PC or Mac? I know that they’re designed for gaming, but I wonder if they might also be useful for productivity. Not sure I want to drop $800 to find out without first hearing that it’s worked well for someone else! FWIW the Wisp and SmartNav are discontinued, and I’m not sure I want to have the need to stick things to my forehead in order to use the TrackerPro. Right now I get by with a trackball, Dragon, and a couple of typing wands (rarely used), but it could certainly be better as I think about returning to work. I’ve also tried a GlassOuse and think it’s neat, but it’s a little too jumpy to be really useful.
