SP2 for dummies

Resolved most everthing by just taking the time to do a little digging and tweekin. Dumped a few programs, added some updates on others.

When you get a new car, you just wanna turn the key and go for a drive. Not work on the damn thing every trip.

I loaded SP2, no problems so far. Luckily I had cleared out that plague of spyware first. When I got on this morning, Spysweeper informed me that like 40 different websites were eager to be included on my IE favorites list. WTF? Is this what SP2 will do for us? Is this what Digger meant about DSO exploits in the IE registry? (And why can't these people speak English?) It makes me feel like I've been sold out. I am trying to not take it personally, but sheesh.....

Hello Beth:

I think that Spy Sweeper is giving you a warning and also asking you a question at the same time. I know that you are looking for English and instead you are getting "geek speak". If it does not look right, do not add the 40 different web sites to your Internet Explorer favorite list. I do not believe that Service Pack Two is causing these problems. I think this problem started with Kazaa along with the file sharing and downloading of pornography by your (typical) sons.

You can try to update the Spy Sweeper "Definitions" and then run the program again. I also like Boosters suggestion about using Window Washer to clean out your Internet cache files along with your cookies.

Run Spybot, download Adware, and this: http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/w...sher/index.php which has a free trial. Multiple ways of "cleaning" is the only way to go to prevent malware.

I don't think you need to worry about DSO exploits.

The XP SP2 Deployment Saga Continues

Push Is Coming to Shove for XP SP2 Deployment

Affecting all the XP users who have been avoiding or procrastinating about installing the Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrade, Microsoft is about to make the decision for them.

On April 12, Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to turn on its Automatic Update service, which will deploy the XP Service Pack 2 to all PCs connected to the Internet regardless of whether corporate IT departments or individual PC users have prepared for it.

SP2, developed to fix critical security holes and deploy performance enhancements, was originally released in September 2004. But in response to customer complaints, Microsoft suspended the automatic deployment for eight months to give users time to prepare for the upgrade.
