so i really like this 17 in laptop.
would i be foolish to see what a hard drive costs and replace it??
    it is 5 years old.
also another question when i did a defrag testerday on my compaq that i,m on now i noticed a looooot of contagious files is there a wat to get rid of them
    i have C CLEANER installed
You should be able to call a repair shop and give them the model of you computer. They should be able to give you the cost of a drive and labor if you want them to do the work.

Regarding the contagious files, they are probably quaranteened by your antivirus software. You should check that to see how to delete them.

        Hi Foxi
What are you going to do ? The underside of your laptop is where all the goodies are ! Just have right size screwdriver usually small phillips
You can do this yourself and save lots of money as long as you have your operating system disk's ok ?
Just trying to lend a hand

tigerdirect.com has these parts very affodable just call them and tell them what brand model and ser# laptop you have they are a great place for computer buffs

laptop harddrives are affordable Depending on speed and brands / size

I would then install a brand new cmos bios battery located on your motherboard it is about the size of a nickle you cant miss it !

It is relatively a very easy fix

If I lived closer i'd fix it for free you just buy the parts
        Good luck in everything
        Sincerely;
        Gypsylady

This is a no-cost, fairly easy thing to try if you or a friend can figure out how it's done on your machine. Takes me less than a minute on my laptop. Incidentally, it's the same procedure used to install a new drive...so you might want to learn. You can also figure out how to order the correct drive. Do you have a local computer club or other access to a bunch of nerds?

                  You most likely have 1 harddrive with 2 partitions 1 C & 1 D drive

                  Look here for password http://www.recoveranypassword.com/re...word-recovery/

If you want to you can delete any or all data on D & yes with this http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm you can make 1 partition
but be very careful you can wipe both drives (C & D) if you do not know want you are doing.
WITH EASEUS Partition MasterHome Edition - Free!
#1 You need to right click on D & click on Delete (screenshot 1)
#2 You need to right click on C & click on Resize/Move (screenshot 2)
#3 & in (screenshot 3) You need to move the slider(1) to the right or the up arrow (2) untell it takes all the space & (3) is zero then OK you will need to restart after that.
