    I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we could post favourite inspirational thoughts ... a place to come and read and share words of encouragement when we feel we just need a little lift ..... I pray you find peace ....

    I love Sue's signature line .... I have it printed and stuck to one of my cupboard doors .... I think it speaks to all of us ... and it inspires me to keep pluggin' along ....

    Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

      I like this one.... (it's a little long)

      One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

      Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

      At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyon'e amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

      As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

      Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up!

      Shake it off and take a step up.

        I am not religious, but I have always found this Gaelic blessing to be both beautiful and peace of mind bringing:

        May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back.

        May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields.

        And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

            I got this from a friend the other day:

            This woman
            talks to me
            in a warm language
            between her feelings
            and mine.
            She has no whip
            in her talk,
            no snarling teeth;
            She does not need to
            see the color of my blood
            to know me.
            This woman,
            seeing the gap
            in my fence,
            walks through it
            knowingly; and I,
            I let her stand in my
            fleld,
            unharmed.

              Look Up

              Got this yesterday, it hit home.

              THE BUZZARD

              If you put a Buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by
              8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in
              spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner.
              The reason is that a Buzzard always begins a
              flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet.
              Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not
              even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner
              for life in a small jail with no top.

              THE BAT

              The ordinary Bat that flies around at night,
              a remarkably nimble creature in the air, can n ot
              take off from a level place. If it is placed on
              the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle
              about helplessly and, no doubt painfully, until
              it reaches some slight elevation from which it
              can throw itself into the air. Then, at once,
              it takes off like a flash.

              THE BUMBLE BEE

              A Bumble Bee, if dropped into an open
              tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it
              is taken out. It never sees the means of
              escape at the top, but persists in trying to
              find some way out through the sides near
              the bottom. It will seek a way where none
              exists, until it completely destroys itself.

              PEOPLE

              In many ways, we are like the Buzzard, the Bat, and the Bumble Bee.
              We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations,
              never realizing that all we have to do is look up.
              Every day I wake up is a good one

                Everyone says: "Nature is great, yet Nature is simple."

                It is great because it is simple.

                If it were not simple, long ago it would have come to little.

                Nature sustains itself through three precious principles,
                which one does well to embrace and follow.

                These are gentleness, frugality, and humility.

                When one is gentle, he has not fear of retaliation.

                Whe one is frugal, he can afford to be generous.

                When one is humble, no one challenges his leadership.

                But when rudeness replaces gentleness,

                And extravagance replaces frugality,

                And pride replaces humility,

                Then one is doomed.

                Since a gentle attack arouses little antagonism,

                And a gentle defense provokes little anger,

                Nature predisposes to gentleness those most suited for survival.

                From the Tao Teh King by Lao Tzu
                Archie Bahm edition.
                "Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence." Lin Yutang

                  Footprints

                  Footprints
                  Also Known As "I Had a Dream"
                  Margaret Fishback Powers
                  1964

                  One night I dreamed a dream.
                  I was walking along the beach
                  with my Lord.

                  Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.

                  For each scene,
                  I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
                  one belonging to me and one to my Lord.

                  When the last scene of my life shot before me
                  I looked back at the footprints in the sand.

                  There was only one set of footprints.

                  I realized that this was at the
                  lowest and saddest times of my life.

                  This always bothered me and I questioned
                  the Lord about my dilemma.

                  "Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You,
                  You would walk and talk with me all the way.

                  But I'm aware that during the most troublesome
                  times of my life there is only one set of footprints.

                  I just don't understand why,
                  when I need You most,
                  You leave me."

                  He whispered, "My precious child,
                  I love you and will never leave you,
                  never, ever, during your trials and testings.

                  When you saw only one set of footprints,
                  it was then that I carried you."

                  Peace be with you always.

                    Serenity Prayer

                    This prayer has been used by AA but I have found that it also helps me to deal with so many things that come my way in life.

                    God grant me the serenity
                    to accept the things I cannot change;
                    courage to change the things I can;
                    and wisdom to know the difference.

                    Living one day at a time;
                    Enjoying one moment at a time;
                    Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
                    Taking, as He did, this sinful world
                    as it is, not as I would have it;
                    Trusting that He will make all things right
                    if I surrender to His Will;
                    That I may be reasonably happy in this life
                    and supremely happy with Him
                    Forever in the next.
                    Amen.

                      Inspiration is a journey of life. It changes, grows, learns,adapts and accepts. It is fluid, coping with pain beyond imagining and seeking ways to go on with strenth and grace. It recognizes the profound beauty in the simplest aspects of life, and in honest emotion, and honors the value of love freely given. Sometimes, in life's bleakest moments, it seems inspiration has abandoned us, but - for those who would continue this difficult journey - we find it again, though it may have changed it's song once more.

                      My journey caregiving for my family(meaning - in this case, parents, sisters and aunt) was long, complex and difficult. I found a forum for caregivers and used a succession of sig lines when I participated there that -looking back - express the journey I took and the way my perspective changed.The inspiration that kept me going changed over time. My initial mantra was as simple as:

                      "It can only get so bad before it has to get better"

                      Not exactly uplifting, but it got me through some very stressful times when I could barely keep my head up. Life became less stressful after the deaths of all but one of my family members, but less stressful - when you've lost loved ones - is merely a different kind of ache and ,for awhile, my quote became:

                      "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose"

                      Time does heal. I found solace in Debbie, our pets, my niece and friends- and in reaching out to others in need, including fellow caregivers on that forum. I changed my quote to

                      "Lean on me, when you're not strong, and I"ll be your friend, I'll help you carry on"

                      I learned a lot about life and death over those years. Like everyone, I"ll continue learning - and changing - all my life. I see both beauty and ugliness in this world , there is still plenty of stress to be had,and I have my days where I'd rather just hide. There are also those moments of great love and joy. I know I can get through the dark times - I have before - and I strive to truly appreciate the good moments and not take them for granted. My saying now?

                      "Whatever tomorrow brings, I"ll be there - with open arms and open eyes"

                        As a registered nurse I worked for many years in the oncology /haematology ward of a big hospital.
                        When my husband had the MVA & became w/c bound I felt very "hard done by" and vocalised it frequently until my dear Mother reminded me in her gentle way that I should be very grateful.
                        When I asked her why she answered : "You & Kevin have something that most of your Patients have run out of ,TIME "
                        It certainly put a different perspective on our problem.

                            JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL RELEASE ALL WORRY
