Agency requirements: I've recently been researching new home health care agencies. Because I use a "hoyer" lift, on several occasions I've been told that the agency requires 2 workers to safely operate the lift (even if it's a powered lift). I've been injured 29 years, and running into this requirement is new to me. Has anyone had similar experience?

Most floor based patient lifts (Hoyer is a brand name) can safely be used by one caregiver, especially if you have hard (not carpeted) floors, but every agency makes their own rules, based on OSHA requirements. You may try to negotiate with them, but you also may need to go with a different agency. (KLD)The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care.
