    Can't find caregivers ... Please, need suggestions and ideas!

    Good evening,

    I’m having severe problems hiring caregivers right now. I wanted to ask for everyone’s unique and outside the box strategies of hiring caregivers?

    I have tried contacting local universities and colleges, posting on Care.com, posting on craigslist, posting in the states PCA directory for Massachusetts (which is still pretty terrible), I posted flyers in my apartment complex, I feel like I’ve tried everything. I know there is a labor shortage right now and that is part of it, also coronavirus of course…

    I am literally right now looking at posting advertisements in the newspaper… and I don’t even think they do that anymore…

    Please give me your ideas, I know many of you guys have a lot of experience 😃

    Have you checked with your local job service or perhaps a medical facility!

      Have you tried NextDoor? I often see both ads for caregivers and caregivers looking for jobs there.

        I know this sounds crazy but some occupations have "down time" or "part time" - can you make a list of occupations like that and make contacts? Occupations that come to mind are part time fire fighter, part time EMS, substitute teachers, lawn services during winter, funeral home staff workers (don't laugh, my sister said she works in one once a week and when they have funerals it's only one case at a time - to protect workers and mourners who visit).
        Also, pay the absolute top amount you can afford. Not sure I would advertise that, but if you find suitable candidates to interview it might help get someone.
        This problem you are facing is going on with others too, and sucks!

          Also, make it clear in your ads that you will train the person. If you require caregiver experience, knowledge of how to do bowel care or do a catheter change, you will significantly decrease your pool of candidates. For us, reliability and timeliness were much more important, and we put that in our ads. (KLD)

        i know that having a colonstomy helps with care giver, i know it got a lot easier plus gives me lot of independence i do not know if thats a option for u

          You have covered every base I've been doing for four years now. But here is something I tried just tried today and this might help you. Go to https://patch.com/massachusetts/boston and after you go there you could keep changing your locations in your profile to get your ad to surrounding towns. Good Luck, BROTHER!

            I forgot. Did you try Facebook? I did my 4 surrounding towns and got many replies. You can look at their page and get a hint. Many I thought RUN FOR THE HILLS!

          Unless I get a personal reference from a present caregiver, which is extremely unlikely, I go with three different local Pennysaver/newspaper/shoppers guide type publications for usually two issues. It's not cheap, but is the only way.

              Anyone have any good approaches for posting in churches? Who do you talk to?

                Call the pastor's secretary and ask about putting a notice in the church bulletin. You will be most successful at a church you actually attend. (KLD)

              Isn't there home health agencies where you can get caregivers? That's what I had been using

                Agency caregivers are very expensive and not covered by most insurances. In addition, CNAs from agencies in many states are not allowed to do care such as wound care, caths, bowel care, or suctioning. (KLD)

                In our state welfare covers care home health services for certain income limits.. My aunt has a home health care service

                Prime West and MinnesotaCare.

                  We have a program in CA too (IHSS) but you still have to find your own caregivers. (KLD)

                Most people want to believe their neighbors are trustworthy, which makes some Nextdoor members unsuspecting targets
