Scoliosis is difficult to treat in those with extensive trunk paralysis. Braces can cause skin breakdown and AD if not used correctly. I would strongly recommend that you seek out treatment by an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in scoliosis management (often in teens). This may mean traveling to a specialty center or hospital in order to find someone with the right level of expertise. Surgery may be needed, and often is preferable to heavy duty bracing.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
