    Quad and irrigating a colostomy

I am a c5/c6 Quad and have been considering irrigating my descending sigmoid colostomy. Can anyone tell me if it is a good or bad thing for me to do? All replies welcome. Thanks

    Colostomy also

I am intersted in this as well, What are you hoping to gain from this? Can you eat anything at all. Are you on pain meds? If so, do you get constipated... is that why. I am having these issues and am considering irrigating as well.. but know nothing about it either. Thanks, Mike

Why do you want to irrigate it?
A decending sigmoid colostomy typically utilizes a natural evacuation. Attempt to set up a regular schedule.
You can irrigate it but you should discuss it with your doctor first.

        irrigation

Hello -- I don't have an SCI but I do have a colostomy (cancer) I've been irrigating for over 4 years now and it's made a huge difference in quality of life. If successful, irrigation can cut down on expenses (less bags to buy). Most importantly, it can eliminate stool, and to a lesser extent gas, for 24 to 48 hours. I irrigate every second day. Hope you look into this, it's worth a shot.
