    Malone procedure

We are seeking doctors and medical centers that are doing the Malone, or ACE, procedure for adult SCI patients with ongoing severe constipation. Ideally, a medical center or doctor in the Chicago area -- but we're open to travelling to other areas if necessary. Seven years of severe constipation and occasional bowel accidents are more than enough! Sounds like the Malone procedure might be the answer. Any information would be appreciated.

I would recommend inquiring at your large pediatric rehabilitation centers or large pediatric hospitals in your area. This procedure has been done most on children with spina bifida, so you are more likely to find surgeons who are experienced with it in those settings. In Chicago, check with the peds unit at RIC, and also at Children's Hospital.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
