Biofilm reduction potential of 0.02% polyhexanide irrigation

just a quick question wondering if anyone knows why this is not available in the US. I know of no other solution out there that will prevent biofilm and also kill bacteria.

I did a quick review of the internet
not sure why 0.02% polyhexanide irrigation is not available yet in the US
but several articles including one in the NIH from European authors show good results with use
i did read that acetic acid is a biofilm disruptor
i do know that acetic acid is available for bladder flushes Have you tried that?

I called Braun USA all they could tell me no they just don't carry it in this country.

Yes I had read it has antibacterial properties that's why I thought it would help me. You see right now I'm using Renacidin to stop the catheter from clogging. But there is so much mucus type stuff passing through the catheter, so it's hard to pass and it makes me sweat. I find it annoying.

Yes I have read that and it also has some antibacterial properties. That's why I figured it would probably work better than Renacidin and possibly get rid of all that mucus type garbage I'm having trouble passing

No I haven't and I do wanna try it. I found the ratio information at gillettechildrens.org. But unfortunately they did not state how to store it. Which I believe is very important.

Do you have any idea if it should be refrigerated?

        As required for urologic irrigation.

0.25% Acetic Acid Irrigation USP may be administered by gravity drip via an administration set connected to an indwelling urethral catheter designed for continuous or intermittent two-way flow.

For continuous or intermittent irrigation, the rate of administration will correspond roughly to the rate of urine flow and should be adjusted to maintain a urinary effluent pH of 4.5 to 5.0.

        HOW SUPPLIED
0.25% Acetic Acid Irrigation USP is supplied sterile and nonpyrogenic in 1000 mL and 500 mL PIC™ (Plastic Irrigation Containers) packaged 16 per case.

Exposure of pharmaceutical products to heat should be minimized. Avoid excessive heat. Protect from freezing. It is recommended that the product be stored at room temperature (25°C); however, brief exposure up to 40°C does not adversely affect the product.

Do not warm above 150°F (66°C).
        Rx only

I have just went on Brauns website and once the bottle is open it's only good for 24 hours. I guess I'd be better off doing the white vinegar but I'm terrible at math.

          https://www.gillettechildrens.org/?A...lename=878.pdf

What will the ratio be to make 30 milliliters that's how much I would be instilling.

Or I'm not sure I have not read anywhere if this was made in a larger batch if it could be put aside. there is nothing noted about it's shelf life.

Best to buy acetic acid solution that is made for urologic irrigation rather than try to mix your own. Very difficult to make your own without contaminating it with bacteria, and even pharmacists do it under a sterile hood. But our urologists stopped using it years ago. (KLD)
