  • Supra Pubic Catheter Question.

Is it safe to get into a hot tub with a Supra pubic catheter?

  • #2
How long have you had the SP catheter? I would not recommend it within the first 2 months after the procedure, as your stoma/tract have not yet shrunken down to create a good seal around the catheter sufficiently. After that, yes, you may go into a hot tub, although be aware that hot-tubs are a notorious source of community acquired MRSA infections in even AB people, and if your injury is at T7 or above, it is very possible to get hyperthermia in a hot-tub if you stay in too long. Ideally, you should not remove your drainage bag from the catheter, as this breaks the seal and violates your closed system, increasing your risks for UTIs.
