    My Colostomy is Bypassed?

I am a year with my colostomy after my SCI a year and a half ago. The colostomy has been wonderful liberating me from my rectal incontinence......until now. I have been hospitalized for a week now to treat a UTI. During this time I have developed C Diff and suddenly I am purging diarrhea both into my Ostomy bag AND out of my rectum!! How is this possible? My colostomy was supposed to resolve my rectal incontenence, and, for a year, it did just that. How can my rectum now suddenly be purging fecal matter again? No one here seems to have an answer.

Is there a lot coming out of your rectum? Is it stool or mucus? Usually when they do a colostomy there is a section left (stub) that can still produce mucus. I believe they recommend doing an enema to get the mucus out occasionally. Hopefully more will chime in.

I recall a thread a few years ago where the poster had a colitis in the stub portion, following antibiotics, that produced diarrhea like symptoms.
C.diff and UTIs can create a vicous cycle. I've been dealing with this for over a year, ruining my life. Hope you get resolution soon.
