Can gentamicin (irrigations? instillations?) can be used to treat as well as prevent UTIS?

The only use for gentamicin that I have read on this forum is for helping to prevent urinary tract infection.

I've also searched the internet literature and I haven't found any scholarly papers that verify the use of gentamicin instillations to cure a urinary tract infection.

If culture shows organism is sensitive to Gentamycin it is dosed per weight and given IM or IV. No pills.
It is not used in those with kidney dysfunction or will be "renal dosed" -lower dose.
Gentamycin irrigation is for preventing infections/killing organisms before becomes symptomatic UTI.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
