  • Can low blood pressure cause dizziness while working out?

My blood pressure has always run on the low end. I had my yearly urology check up last week, and my blood pressure was 89/55. When I work on my hand bike I sometimes get a little light headed. Can my low blood pressure be the cause? Any natural ways to raise it?

Sure, it'll cause light headedness. I just load up on the salt. The only time my BP is really low is when I have a UTI.

Strong coffee will raise blood pressure.

GP told me coffee does next to nothing for BP. I drink double espressos and still low, but wakes me up.

Low BP does make you dizzy, feel faint and possibly pass out and end up on the floor which lowers the head and resolves the problem.

Drops when I resolve irritation below lesion (in pons). Need to lie down after sorting B & b. Have passed out after a pee.

Salt is not a good idea. Water is.

zagam you need to get a new GP.

When I was at The Cleveland Clinic two years ago my BP dropped and the nurse gave me black plain coffee and it increased my BP.

Yes low BP can cause dizziness when moving from lying down to sitting and sitting to standing or changing positions quickly.
To keep your blood pressure up
              *drink fluids
*if you are a quadriplegic level spinal cord injury, consider wearing an abdominal binder
              * monitor your BP regularly - if you consistently have low BP and symptoms of lightheadedness, dizziness consider an appointment with provider to discuss your symptoms - there are medications to elevate your blood pressure - if it is determined that you would benefit you.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Must have been nasty coffee or my BP does not respond to usual levels of caffeine.

Have not asked the new GP as the old one has retired. I have confirmed with my own sphig. Wakes me up, but BP stays much the same. Never touch decaf.

Dark roast blended (Italian style) coffee has less caffeine. Drink it throughout the day. Almost green coffee may be another storey.

Need 4 shots in the morning to become conscious. Can drive a manual espresso machine in my sleep with the help of my daemons and succubi, then wake up while drinking it.

Anything with caffeine can help a little. That is why coffee works for some of us. In addition to the above suggestions, keeping cool can help. It causes the blood vessels to constrict. I have grown comfortable with my low blood pressure. I remain pretty functional until it gets down to around 60/40.
