    Question

Sometimes I get pimples or bumps on my back and legs and was wondering if anyone else gets them. I never had them before my SCI so wondering if my injury has anything to do with it. Thanks

I could only guess that it might be related to a change in bathing/washing habits/abilities; it's hard to see what the SCI per se would have to do with it.

Some more information would be helpful. What level is your injury and is it complete/incomplete. Are the bumps red or are they normal skin color? How long do they last..hours, days, weeks?

My injury is C4-6 incomplete. I have the red bumps or spots that last for weeks and then I get new ones and they last for weeks. It continues to happen and I don't know why.

What makes them go away? How big are the splotches? Location?

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I have the bumps on my back and legs mostly, sometimes on my stomach. I usually pick at them and sometimes they seem to leave after a week or so. I don't know what could be causing them.

You definitely shouldn't pick at them, they could become infected. Try an antibiotic ointment on them and see if they clear up.

Do they have puss like a pimple or a bright red pin point spot on the tip? Do you sleep mostly on your back? I am suspecting an allergy or irritation from your bed linens.

My Son is c5 c6 incomplete. He also has red bumps on his back and stomach.Like a heat rash mostly, no puss, just little bumps. He wears a binder around his middle to help with bp when he gets up. We have started un doing it when it levels out in his chair. We thought that may be causing it but also wondered about not being able to shower. We are in the process of building a roll in shower, I guess we will see when we are finished if that's what the problem is. He has been home for 2 1/2 months and only able to get a bed bath.

Thanks everyone for replies. They are like red pimples with no pus. It drives me crazy when I get a breakout.

My guess is a laundry detergent/softener reaction. You might try changing to a different one. If the bumps have a pinpoint dark red spot on top, they would likely be a bug bite. Maybe bed bugs since there is an epidemic.

can you try cleansing w/a soft astringent, such as witch hazel? that may help if it's a cleansing issue.

Many years ago I suffered breakouts, and they said it was folliculitis. It is caused by friction. Anyway, a topical antibiotic took care of it.

I use Zest. Any other soap, shampoo has so much perfume in it, I break out.
You might try A&D ointment, calamine lotion.
