    SCI Clinical Practice Guidelines

    Clinical Practice Guidelines
These Clinical Practice Guidelines have been developed for professionals by the Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine, which is made up of 23 professional and consumer groups concerned with spinal cord injury care, and funded by the Paralyzed Veterans of America. All Guidelines are based on the latest research/evidence as well as expert opinion (when research is lacking). They can be downloaded for free so you can share them with your healthcare providers and discuss them. Current topics include:

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

The latest CPG is the 3rd Edition of Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Individuals with SCI. This is the professional CPG. Not sure when the consumer version will be out (if ever):

PVA website has changed and it is more difficult to find these now, unfortunately.

Here are the professional clinical practice guidelines:

Unfortunately, the patient/consumer versions of these no longer appear to be on-line. I am trying to get more information about this through the Consortium.

I should have posted the new link for the consumer guidelines here previously. Sorry, here they are:
