    Another ostomy question

I'm a C5-C6 quad 13 years post. Been reading and thinking about a colostomy for sometime now. The increased independence sounds wonderful on top of the fact I've never had a good or consistant bowel program. I'm in central North Carolina, how do I find a ostomy nurse and doctor that has dealt with sci's to do the surgery.

    Thanks
    Roger

I would try looking at a university setting to see if they have any connections with physicians who have dealt with sci. Also, there is a SCI rehab in SC - I am blanking on the name, but I believe that it starts with Robert (and is someone's name) that might be able to provide you with some physician's names.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I'm just north of you in Kernersville. I'm new to the area but I'd bet almost anything that some of the hospitals here (either in Winston or Greensboro) have competent doctors. If you need input/tips, PM me. I have a colostomy as of '05.
