    Condom catheters

Well I use Inview which does make my life convenient but I think that is what causes all my uti's. I can not get my bladder in control so I rely on them and a stupid leg bag which ends up having to b washed like so many times and is a nuisaince can't wear shorts u know. I heard they had a condom cath that fits on the tip of your penis as well and I can not find em.

Wheels I'm confused, why do you wash a leg bag and not just throw it away and buy a new one? They have ones that you throw away constantly and ones that can last like a month then you throw them away.

Also there are condom caths called "Pop ons" which don't go on the shaft of your penis as much but be warned that they may rip off much easier. I use condom caths sometimes like if i'm going on a plane ride or if I'm going on a road trip it really helps. Also its nice not having to deal with the pain of cathing all the time if you can feel it.

When I use them the ones I use are called "Ultra Flex" condom caths.

Here is a link to the pop ons: http://www.umponline.com/condom-cath...chester-3.html

The reason I use ultra flex is because it sticks on the best and if you get a random erection it doesn't break off

While the use of condom catheters can increase your rate of UTIs (esp. if you don't change them at least every 24 hours), if you you are managing your bladder with only reflex voiding, it is much more likely that this is the cause of your frequent UTIs. This is because it is very common to be emptying with high pressures (which significantly increase your risks for both UTI and long term kidney damage) and with incomplete emptying (high residual urine amounts) which also increase your rate of UTI.

When did you last have urodynamics? What was your maximum bladder pressure (PdetMax)?

When you have checked your residual urine (either by cathing or doing an ultrasound) immediately after you "kick off", what was the amount?

Do you have a good neurologic urologist that you see at least once annually?

When you say frequent UTIs, do you mean positive cultures only (which is not a UTI) or actual UTI with fever, chills, etc.? How often?

Leg and bed bags should be cleaned daily, and changed monthly. Most insurances will not pay for a new one daily, and it is really wasteful to do that when cleaning with a 10% bleach solution has good research evidence for being effective.

The catheter that fits on the tip of one's penis is the Bioderm Liberty Pouch. This novel external catheter is made from hydrocolloid rather than latex or silicone. Because it attaches only to the tip of the penis (glans) it is especially helpful for men who are uncircumcised. Traditional condom type cathers are not as well suited to men with intact foreskin. Bioderm's Liberty Pouch comes with a small volume bag for low volume incontinence. This is great for sporting activities or wearing under shorts. One can attach extension tubing and a more traditional leg bag if desired. Bioderm''s website has more detail. The device is not for everyone, but you may find it helpful.

For those who want a more traditional condom catheter, I just switched to Conveen's new Optima condom catheter. It has great adhesion, fits like a second skin and has a truly kink proof tip. It comes packaged in a tiny plastic box that allows one to carry a spare in your pocket or wallet. Best condom cath I ever used, and I've tried most of them.
