    My wound won't heal.

Hi guys, I've been dealing with this for about 2 months now. It started out like a pimple I think, and then it just opened and I've been dealing with the wound ever since.

It's very small and on the surface, so I'd like to treat it before it gets worse. Unfortunately we don't have wound care specialists in my country so I'll have to try and treat it at home.

Do you guys have any advice on what to do ? Do you recommend something like a lotion or anything that I would apply to the wound, preferably sold online so I can buy it.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    A.J.

If it's on your bottom side, stay off of it and let it dry. Good luck!

Is the wound a pressure sore? If so, most recommend to STAY OFF YOUR BUTT! After you're healed, I have experienced great relief from pressure sores & sitting discomfort by using an alternating pressure cushion *under* my Stimulite Classic. (about $170 from http://www.flowcushion.com/flow/) I have NO financial interest in this company. A reasonably handy person can tap into the electrical system of most power chairs to install a 12 volt cigarette lighter.

Where is it? Anyway to take a photo of it? If it won't heal, there's either still pressure on it or it's infected. Which do you think it is?

Supplements DO WORK ... try a multi-vitamin, zinc and iron for starters.

Does it bleed or seep wound drainage at all - red around the outside?

As others have said, we really need to know where the sore is.

You need to keep all pressure off of it. You can try using a hydrocolloid dressing to protect it.

Its on my butt. I don't know how I missed mentioning where it is, Sorry guys.

I don't really know if it's a pressure sore, but I think it's not because it started out as a pimple and then it just got bad, and not as red spot.

I think it wont heal because of the pressure, I try my best so it won't get worse, but just transferring and being in my wheelchair is not good. It doesn't look infected (thank god).

I am taking multi vitamins (GNC Mega Men). It doesn't bleed or drain when I'm off it, but it does when I transfer and sit on it.

What do you guys mean by keeping all pressure of of it, do you mean that I can't even lay on my back ? only on my sides ? No transfers and all that ?

Is it possible to elevate my leg so that the wound is not touching anything ?

Would you guys recommend some kind of medication to use on the wound, I will keep off it for sure but If there's anything else I can do to speed up the process, please share it with me.

Thank you for your help everybody, I really appreciate it.

              A.J.

That’s right absolutely all pressure off the wound. It sounds fairly minor at this stage and its better to be safe than sorry. Degeneration of a small pressure sore to something major can happen quickly. Would you rather spend 2 weeks or 2 months in bed? Keep it clean and apply a dressing as suggested by the SCI Nurse. If you can’t get an opinion locally get your camera out and send a pic. Don’t be shy.

Because this has been going on for two months or more, you must make treatment the highest priority. In the worst case scenario, the drainage could be coming from deeper in the tissue near a bone. Sometimes pressure sores start that way. Second, it may be at least a borderline infection. Does the drainage have a smell? You could try putting a small amount of antibiotic ointment on it for a day or two. There are dressings that contain silver that are very good for treating infected wounds but I do not know if they are available in your country. What kind of wheelchair cushion do you have?
