New BBCODEs: [stewart], [colbert], [foxnews], [nbcnews], [hulu]

    Enjoy.
    The Daily Show

Embed clips from The Daily Show web site. To do so, look at the URL and find the video ID. Wrap it in [stewart][/stewart] tags and enjoy.
    Example:

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=114096&title=Headlines---Cheney-Hunting-Accident

    [stewart]114096[/stewart]

The videoID is the number in bold.
    The Colbert Report

Embed clips from The Colbert Report web site. To do so, look at the URL and find the video ID. Wrap it in [colbert][/colbert] tags and enjoy.
    Example:

    http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/221335/march-11-2009/the-word---rand-illusion

    [colbert]221335[/colbert]

The videoID is the number in bold.
    FOX News

Embed clips from the FOX News web site. To do so, click the SHARE button when the video is playing. Then click the "Link to this Video" button. Look at that URL and find the referral Object ID. Wrap it in [foxnews][/foxnews] tags and enjoy.
    Example:

    http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&streamingForm at=FLASH&referralObject=3911643&referralPlaylistId=949437d0db05ed5f5b9954dc049d70 b0c12f2749

    [foxnews]3911643[/foxnews]

The referralObject ID is the number in bold.
    NBC/MSNBC News

Embed clips from NBC/MSNBC web site. To do so, roll your mouse over the clip thumbnail and look at your status bar. It will show a URL beginning with either http:// or javascript: that gives you the videoID, which you need.
    Example 1 (for http:// URLs):

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/vp/29789983#29789983

    [nbcnews]29789983[/nbcnews]

The videoID is the number in bold. Wrap it with [nbcnews][/nbcnews] and enjoy.
    Example 2 (for javascript: URLs):

    javascript:vPlayer('29790141','ffe1c10a-f0e1-4756-b519-40a9265c281f')

    [nbcnews]29790141[/nbcnews]

The videoID is the number in bold. Wrap it with [nbcnews][/nbcnews] and enjoy.
    Hulu

    Embed clips from Hulu.

These are slightly more work, but not terribly so. When the video is playing on Hulu, roll your mouse over the video and click the embed link. You will then see a mess of HTML embed code, but you're only looking for one thing:
    Example:

    <object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/2XumpvCS7bU3AMcr2Or2bg"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/2XumpvCS7bU3AMcr2Or2bg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>

    [hulu]2XumpvCS7bU3AMcr2Or2bg[/hulu]

That ID in bold is what you're looking for. Wrap that ID in [hulu][/hulu] tags and enjoy.

    Bonus Hulu

Hulu lets you specify starting and ending times for specific clips.

    Example:

    <object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/QDS-RLgmJ9xoF5cXXCoJqg/840/980"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/QDS-RLgmJ9xoF5cXXCoJqg/840/980" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>

The numbers after the normal ID are the starting and ending time (in seconds), so either pay close attention to the time while watching the video or click the embed button and drag the end points to the specified start and end times. Copy everything in bold, stick it in [hulu][/hulu] tags and enjoy.

Right on! There's always something from The Daily Show or The Corbert Report that I've wanted to post here. And adding Hulu.com opens up a whole variety of TV shows to put clips from. Thanks for this Stephen! Keep up the good work.

        Thanks rdf and rybread.

Stewart is the result of a request, so I went ahead and added the others as well. I included FOX News to prove that CC is Fair and Balanced.

Hulu's really surprising, rybread. You can include just excerpts of videos by just adding the first and last seconds, which can be very useful.

Note that if you're using Ubuntu 64-bit, you may have to manually upgrade to the latest flash player as described here:

              hello Steven
I did all right embeding a youtube video but I can't figure out comedy central. Here is the url I find. {http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-june-22-2009/jason-jones--behind-the-veil---persians-of-interest} I tried wrapping variations of "mon-june-22-2009/jason-jones--behind-the-veil---persians-of-interest". I didn't see any numbers as per your example. All these internets really confuse me and I can't figure what I'm doing wrong.

Thank-you very much for all your hard work in making this really nice organized site where I can bitch complain and insult people.

                Hey Tom,

                Here ya go:
At that link, click the Copy button below the Embed code.

Paste it into a text file like so:

                Code:
                <table style='font:11px arial; color:#333; background-color:#f5f5f5' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='360' height='353'><tbody><tr style='background-color:#e5e5e5' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com'>The Daily Show With Jon Stewart</a></td><td style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; text-align:right; font-weight:bold;'>Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c</td></tr><tr style='height:14px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:2px 1px 0px 5px;' colspan='2'><a target='_blank' style='color:#333; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-september-12-2007/you-re-not-helping---code-pink'>You're Not Helping - Code Pink</a></td></tr><tr style='height:14px; background-color:#353535' valign='middle'><td colspan='2' style='padding:2px 5px 0px 5px; width:360px; overflow:hidden; text-align:right'><a target='_blank' style='color:#96deff; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/'>thedailyshow.com</a></td></tr><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><embed style='display:block' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:102734' width='360' height='301' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' flashvars='autoPlay=false' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' bgcolor='#000000'></embed></td></tr><tr style='height:18px;' valign='middle'><td style='padding:0px;' colspan='2'><table style='margin:0px; text-align:center' cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='100%' height='100%'><tr valign='middle'><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes'>Daily Show<br/> Full Episodes</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.indecisionforever.com'>Political Humor</a></td><td style='padding:3px; width:33%;'><a target='_blank' style='font:10px arial; color:#333; text-decoration:none;' href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-july-28-2009/spinal-tap-extended-performance'>Spinal Tap Performance</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></tbody></table>
Search for :comedycentral.com: and wrap the number after it in [stewart][/stewart] tags.

Searching the embed code on your clip, for example, gives this:
                :comedycentral.com:102734
Wrapping the number after it in [stewart][/stewart] tags gives this:

                [stewart]102734[/stewart]
                Hope this helps!

                Steven

A much easier way to find the videoids for Colbert and Stewart clips: View Source, search for link rel="video_src", and use the number at the end of the href attribute.

Too bad I live in Canada . I can get around comedy central, MTV, and NBC's country restrictions but no dice for Hulu.

steven, how about TED. Bob Clark wanted to embed
                        http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/ca...f_plastic.html into /forum/showthread.php?p=1183158#post1183158

Ted's embed code isn't structured enough for me to create a BBCODE version, sadly. A few TED videos have made me look at its feasibility in the past.

That said, TED maintains a YouTube channel.
