Loved it. Own the 3D version.

Kelly Brook in naked, underwater, lesbian action...in 3D...what's not to like?

I agree with you on the rest of your list too.

Insidious was worse than bad, and not in the Rhinoesque bad but good way.

Loved Let Me In (the Amer. version not so much). Little girl was so good.
Yeah, no question the American version pales in comparison.
And the truth shall set you free.

I didn't think it was THAT bad. But I don't get why it kept getting such good buzz. It wasn't really creepy or original...

On that note, I turned off the American Horror Story pilot 2/3 through. It was dumb and cliché. Meh.

No, it wasn't creepy in a real-life sense, but I think in an era where we've seen so many horrors mainly centered on gore, Insidious was a nice departure.

Just a quick note on American Horror Story, this is Ryan Murphy were talking about, lol of Nip/Tuck fame. This show, imo, probably going to be along the lines of that show, sans the graphic surgeries, lots of sex, lots of melodrama with some creepy twists and turns thrown in. If you weren't interested in that show, you would probably hate this one.

I'm also pretty sure the horror cliches were deliberate.

This past weekend the Saw series was out and so was Hostel. I love those movies and I believe that crimes such as these exists but you never hear about them because no one is alive to tell the story.

According to the writers, they are, because the show isn't really a horror but a drama with horror elements added to it. The idea was to showcase modern American life with horror thrown into it for a sub-genre.

You mean organized crimes as in Hostel? I'd agree with that. As for Sawesque crimes, if they're done, even the police don't find the evidence or we'd likely know.

Troll Hunters was good. It was fun and amusing, and far better than that Blair Witch shit.

You know I didn't read that but I just figured those writers are too bright to think that they can attract a weekly audience with regurgitating old horror cliches, especially all in a pilot. And I didnt think from the get go that real horror would translate to a weekly tv series. What you're saying todd, is pretty much what i'm expecting, with a little creepy trash a la Ryan Murphy

sorry to take ur thread off track a bit.

mary - I haven't seen Nip/Tuck but hear it's good. Even though I often have something on all day as I work, I can't keep up with all the good shows, so when something like AHS doesn't grab me, I move on.

If they're not doing satire or parody, I don't see the point in purposely using horror clichés.

TMAZ - I've seen all the SAW movies and the two Hostel flicks. I dug them for what they were. I think the first SAW movie has more going for it than a lot of people give it credit for. Sure, it kicked off the "torture porn" subgenre, but it was more than that, even if the sequels weren't.
