has anyone tried using black hand cycle tires as everyday wheelchair tires i hate the grey 24x13/8 tires

  • #2
I use bike tires on my wheelchair. I have an attachment that I put on my wheelchair that makes it into a handcycle. I get around 7000 miles out of them and have not had a problem with them marking up the floors. There are black wheelchair tires as well though. There have been sometimes when the bike tires would track up a floor but nothing a regular mopping would not fix and seemed to be just grime from the road.

I had handcycle wheels built to take a Wheelchair 559 Marathon Plus tires.

Handcycle tires are usually a different size (650 or 700) than w/c unless you want low pressure tires. It's why I had the 559 wheels built; to get more tire choices.. There is a 24x1 3/8 black 100PSI tire that worked really well. Just can't think of the name. They were only 20 bucks apiece.

Schwalbe marathon plus seem to be the most popular wheelchair tire and are all black.

I use regular mountain bike tires of different sizes, for all my wheelchairs and handcycles. Wheel chair rims do not have to be special made to fit wider tires. I always got my tires from wal mart, moved now to desert and I get my tires from tru value hardware in the closest town to me.
